Ironic Software Creative workflow solutions Sun, 04 Oct 2015 14:27:58 +0000 en-US hourly 1 OS X 10.11 El Captain support Sun, 04 Oct 2015 14:21:23 +0000 It looks like all the current Ironic programs are running fine under 10.11, we have had no reports of any issues.

There is one thing that can happen on updating your OS.bundle Every time that happens, Apple decides to rebuild your spotlight database. This is a good thing, but while the database is being rebuilt, searching in the Finder or using Yep, Leap, etc may not work completely. The solution is simple – just wait it out. Note that on a Macbook the system may not get a lot of free time to rebuild Spotlight, plus do other housekeeping chores, as the lid may be closed and the system sleeping.

So if you have a laptop and upgrade the OS – leave it plugged in with the lid up for a few hours to let everything catch up.

We are looking at some minor updates over the next few months, followed by a more major update in 2016.

Screen Shot 2015-02-25 at 12.38.42 PMThe old one was a dark colour which Yosemite interpreted as me wanting white on white. Thanks to a few users who pointed this out. –Tom

New Leap, Yep, Fresh and Deep! Tue, 24 Feb 2015 12:12:40 +0000 New builds of Leap, Yep, Deep and Fresh are up on our servers and also on the Apple Store.

You can get the builds right here:

They require OS X 10.8 or later, and are 64 bit only applications signed by Ironic Software.

The changes are mostly of the keep the apps up to date variety, with the following fixes:

Leap/Yep – both have more tags available to choose from for autocomplete.

Fresh – You can now file documents from the cooler or fresh area directly to any folder on your computer. I have been wanting this capability for my own purposes for a while now.

There are also quite a few small bug fixes – mostly added as a response to customer feedback. Thanks for that!

Move a file anywhere quickly without wading through the Finder.

Yep is version 3.6.0, Leap is version 3.6.0, Deep is version 1.5.4, and Fresh is version 2.6.0.

You can buy from Ironic directly by clicking the ‘Buy‘ item at the top of the page.

Bundles like this provide both sales and marketing exposure for the indepScreen Shot 2014-07-23 at 10.10.52 AMendent developers out there. I bought a copy to get the latest Data Rescue (friends seem to bring me computers once or twice a year with ‘it don’t work and what’s a backup?’). Also high on my list is Periscope, which takes photos with your computer for security, wildlife monitoring, etc.

Its $19.99 for over $600 of value, so head over today!

10% of all sales goes to a charity of your choice, making it even easier to buy. Macheist has raised a lot of money for charity this way

Thanks for your support,

Spotdox is Yep and Leap on the iPhone Tue, 22 Apr 2014 20:04:02 +0000 We get requests on a regular basis – when is Yep coming to the iPhone/iPad? The answer to that question is basically ‘no’. Yep and Leap users have lots and lots of data that they are handling – thousands of PDFs, or video and media librarie

Take Your Mac With You.

s that cover many GB (or  TB!) of data. This amount of data cannot be stored on your iPhone. Which means a cloud solution.

A typical cloud solution, like Dropbox or SkyDrive (oops OneDrive), comes to mind. But to use Yep or Leap with Dropbox you would have to put all your documents in your Dropbox. This can work for some people, but even then there are some rough spots when accessing your files using Dropbox or others – no content search, icons are tiny and generic, etc. For many or mostpeople though, the storage and other limitations (like perhaps you simply don’t want all your documents on your Google Drive) make cloud storage a non – starter.

Spotdox solves that by allowing you to get back to your mac from wherever you are – on your phone, iPad, or any web browser. Full icons and full spotlight searching make accessing your files on the go easy. When you want to send a file to another person or edit / view a file on your iPad, Spotdox puts a copy of that file on your Dropbox account. With the plethora of tools that work with Dropbox already out there, you now have your office on your phone.

Spotdox is developed by the same people that make Ironic Software products.

‘Back to your Mac’ is an Apple Trademark that refers to a service that allows you to get files from your own Mac only when you are on another Mac .

Spotdox lets you access your Mac from any device – is that not what ‘Back to your Mac’ should be?

Spotdox can function on your laptop while its in your hotel room, allowing you to reference your computer while you are out at a meeting or touring on your off day.

Enterprise Functionality.

Instead of moving your entire company’s data to the cloud, Spotdox allows you to use your existing LAN, permissions and security to allow employees to access documents on the go. A full ‘paper trail’ is provided for any documents that users share with other people, plus Spotdox can be configured to use two factor authentication or even your corporate single sign on service – any service that works with Dropbox will function with us.

BBC Article on Tagging Thu, 13 Feb 2014 15:31:10 +0000 Ian Hardy of the BBC:

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 10.35.38 AM

It’s a little-known fact that in the computer world, the word “Tags” stands for Totally Awesome Gathering System.

Actually, it’s a little-known fact because I just made it up after spending a few weeks delving into the mini industry of desktop productivity, particularly the organisation of documents, spreadsheets, emails, images etc.

There is also a ‘fairly funny’ photo of me in the article, might give you a reason to click the link…

LEAP FOR MANAGING YOUR FILES Thu, 02 Jan 2014 16:19:57 +0000 Article at the Daily Mac View…

There are systems and tools to help with the organization of your files and file system. What is often stressed in any productivity model such as “Getting things Done” (GTD) is organization from front end to back. The simple reason is if you can’t find an important resource, not only will what you’re doing get slowed down if not stopped but it will add greatly to your stress….
