  • Adding Images in Posts

In order to add an image to a discussion, you need to first have a url to the image. This means that you have to upload the image to somewhere on the internet.

One easy way to do this is to use www. www.postimage.com.

You need to upload your image (remember anyone can see the image by reading a posting here, or other methods). After you upload the image you need to copy the 'html' line and paste it into a discussion comment.

Here is the format of an image in html. (only needed if you do not use postimage.org)

      <img src="http://site.com/pictlink.jpg"/>

This forum does not use BBCode - rather it uses html.

  • Adding Link

You can add a link to a posting: Copy the template below, and replace xxx with the URL, and yyy with what you want to call it (which can be the same as the URL).

      <a href="xxx">yyy</a>

There are two important points to remember about Yep: a) it only looks for PDFs in locations that you have asked it to and b) it uses Spotlight to look for PDFs in those folders.

With this in mind then, if you're not seeing the PDFs you're expecting to see then it may be because you haven't added the necessary locations to Yep's Tracking preferences. If you're sure you have added the right folder or folders to Yep's tracking locations then the problem may be with Spotlight.

If Spotlight can't see the file then neither can Yep. Try doing a Spotlight search for a document you think should be showing up in Yep but isn't and seeing whether Spotlight can find it.

Is it in one of Spotlight's "privacy" folders? Check your System Preferences:Spotlight and look at the list of Privacy folders. Yep won't show you any documents that are in any of these folders.

Your Spotlight database may be corrupt, in which case you will need to rebuild it. See rebuilding your spotlight database.

I have run into similar problems. I told Yep to follow a directory called 'tagged' that had some previously tagged pdfs. I had tagged the items by entering "tags" into the spotlight comments. I figured by telling Yep to look at that directory, it would see the pdf files and I assumed would import that tags since I've told Yep to look at the spotlight comments and import anything preceded with the & symbol as a tag. Yep didn't see the pdf files. I was able to manually add the files but I didn't think I'd have to do that.

I have tried the search using Spotlight and it does find the files there.

The following screenshot might be helpful in understanding what I've described.

    Welcome, kregerator:

Thanks for the screeencap - they're' usually very useful.

    1. What version of Yep and what version of OS X are you running?
    2. I see you're using FileVault. Some people have reported issues with FileVault and Yep.
    3. Yep does not import Tags automatically. If you auto-Tag a file then it will look at the Spotlight Comments for items that appear to be used as Tags.
    4. When you say "manually add the files", what exactly do you mean?

    Hope this helps.
  2.
    I'm using verion 1.8.0 of Yep and I have OS X 10.5.6.

When Yep didn't find the files I just dragged the files right on to the Yep application window and now they show up. I haven't had any other issues since then.

A question for you… Were you using Yep without a problem before you turned on FileVault? And then your docs went missing?

Also, where is your Yep Documents folder located? It's in the Advanced Preferences window.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />I've had this same issue happen to me a couple of times over my year+ use of Yep also. One day, all of a sudden, any document that I add or alter tag info for will start disappearing. The pdf is in the Yep Documents folder. Spotlight can see it. You can even manually add it back into Yep, but you will lose any tag info.

I've found different combinations of backup / restore and reboot seems to fix the issue.

I'm also having the problem with no documents being found. I'm using Yep 2.0.1 and OSX 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro. I've rebuilt the Spotlight index, and tried trashing the preferences and re-installing Yep. My files are tagged using OpenMeta and have Spotlight comment tags as well. I can find them no problem with HoudahSpot and Spotlight, so the issue looks to be with Yep.

I have just finally seen this problem - I think its this problem - on my laptop. I think that it may be that simply waiting a while with the computer running - it does not have to be running Yep or Leap - will fix it. It seems that the spotlight db has some catching up to do on some computers. I will try and pin this down some more over the coming days. So just try running them in a few hours (it was only 20 mins on my laptop, but it definitely happened). Its not a problem with the files, or the tags on them going away, but it seems a problem with spotlight having to play catch up. At least that's my guess. It started working again before I could debug it better.

I am having a similar problem: I am having problems with yep not searching the content of pdfs. Here's what's happening.

    1. I'm running Yep 1.8.0 and OS 10.6.1
2.It seems to find some documents if I search for a keyword in the title - but does NOT find documents based on keywords inside the document (even though documents are searchable text AND have open permissions AND the Yep search settings are set to search everything.
    3. I just rebuilt my spotlight index. No improvement.
    4. getting really tired of this. Yep USED TO search file contents--but it WASN'T my upgrade to Snow Leopard that screwed it up--this problem has been going on for longer than that. I guess I hoped it would fix itself? Sigh. As is, without the ability to search the contents of my pdf files Yep is pretty much a useless tool to me. I can't even start building collections without access to this functionality. Might as well just use spotlight.

I can't be the only one this is happening for. You guys offering solutions? Free upgrades? Refunds?

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />. . . I can however drag and drop pdfs into Yep and things seem to work okay. However, I ended up with a new folder called Filed Documents / 2009 (etc), which actually isn't a bad thing because I can easily see which documents I've filed (duh) and which ones I need to work on. But I was hoping to avoid the copying and deleting that goes along with organizing files on the computer.

    1. Did you read the thread noted above (especially post #2)? Also, just because Leap sees a file, it doesn't mean Yep 2 will see it as well (as noted in the aforementioned thread). Yep 2 sees only Managed files, Leap sees all.

    2. This is not the appropriate venue for discussion of refunds as these are made on a case-by-case basis, not as a blanket policy. If you would like to discuss the possibility then email us at Ironic Support.

We are working on getting Yep to work for everybody - for most people it just works right away. It seems that for some users Yep will take a while to show documents. The key is to simply wait - don't rebuild indexes or anything. It is not ideal - I am trying to recreate the problem here so I can fix it. In fact, in every case I have tracked down, Yep does start working. I know that some users post a message about it not working, then later, when it starts working they don't go and post another message. Which is actually ok - but I know that fixing this problem is a priority.

Also we are on Yep 2.0.7 now, which has at least a partial fix to the problem that you are having.

    http://www.ironicsoftware.com/downloads/Yep_2.0.7.zip

Please contact support directly ironicsupport@gmail.com for other questions - dealing with your order for instance. Also if you do contact support, we could use the OS version, computer type and number of hard drives connected. Also note if you are using Drop Box - (which has been correlated with this problem, but I am running drop box and have no problem), and any other symptoms that you might be having.

    1. getting Yep to work for everybody
would be great, but despite the fact that yep might find what we want (priority #1),
there will be a lot of work to do, to make yep 2.x an app it's fun working with.

    2. The key is to simply wait - so speed is #2
yes this helped me too - one or two days after i tried something, failing most of the times,
I then tried to make a bug report from my experiences, i went through what i could remember
and found everthing working and ok.
BUT - it takes ages. yep seems to be far beyond my work, it's unusable to me.

    3. usability #3

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />From Ironic Apps, Spotlight, and Yep 2 thread:

    ---

"When you start Yep 2 for the first time, there are no Managed files on your computer. Yep then sets about marking files as Managed depending on your preferences. When it marks a file as Managed it is writing metadata to the file. These changes get noticed by Spotlight and it's index gets updated to reflect the new metadata. If there are a large number of changes to be indexed (and there most likely will be), Spotlight can slow down it's indexing. Yep can only see files that have been indexed so it will not show those files until Spotlight gets to them.

As far as Spotlight being able to see files… Spotlight can see files that it has indexed information for. But if Spotlight hasn't indexed the addition of the Managed attribute on a file, it won't find that file just as Yep won't be able to see it."

    ---

I'm the user who got Yep as part of the mupromo bundle above (btw, you really should make it easier to register on here). When I start Yep, it spends a little while looking for files, then says "No documents found". Are you confirming that this is expected behaviour? The blurb on your homepage says "Start Yep for the first time and it automatically shows you all your PDFs, iWork and Office documents." At the moment, that seems more than a little misleading.

No, I am not confirming this is "expected behavior". I am confirming that we have a small group of Users who have experienced some slowdown with Spotlight that has cause Yep to appear "unresponsive". We have been unable to reproduce this behavior personally so we have been trying to gather information to determine commonalities (which is the reason for the questionnaire on the thread). Any information we can get from you guys is very helpful.

As far as the statement goes, we still stand by it since the issue is a very isolated one - the vast majority of Users have launched Yep (or gone from Yep 1 to Yep 2) without incident.(I have personally tested on multiple machines and multiple Accounts without fail.)

    Jim

As far as registering, what would be easier?

    To all:

We need people to be reading this information, not just posting that something "doesn't work"… Check out this discussion: Ironic Apps, Spotlight, and Yep 2 and the first post on this discussion: Some hints about how Yep and Leap work

As I said earlier, this is still an isolated scenario and we have been unable to reproduce the behavior on several machines. In order to determine the exact cause and potential solutions we need Users to read and consider this information. We have many Users who have said "This doesn't work!" only to respond later with "Oh - I forgot I was using Spotless." or some similar thing. Also, if people can answer the questions on the forums or in an email to Ironic Support, it would be even more helpful.
